Program: Schedule, Biosketches/papers/presentations

Plenary Speakers who have accepted,  to date, include the well-known authors Warren G. Gilchrist of Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, UK (Statistical Modeling with Quantile Functions, Chapman & Hall/CRC); Zaven A. Karian of Denison University, Granville, Ohio, USA (Fitting Statistical Distributions: The Generalized Lambda Distribution and Generalized Bootstrap Methods (with E.J. Dudewicz), Chapman & Hall/CRC); Haim Shore of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Be'er Sheva, Israel (Response Modeling Methodology:  Empirical Modeling for Engineering and Science, World Scientific Publishing Co. Ltd.); and, Dr. Karian plans to give a hands-on tutorial in a laboratory setting where every person is at a computer with the necessary software loaded, and participants actually determine fits associated with various data sets, some of which could be their own data sets.

This symposium is designed to provided opportunity for professional interaction among the leaders and others in terms of books, papers, software, with time periods dedicated to small group discussions and interactions—some groups being set up in advance, others by interest at the symposium.  Professors Dudewicz and Karian are currently preparing the Handbook of Fitting Statistical Distributions, and may have opportunity for a few “chapter authors” to showcase their areas/expertise in carefully defined articles. This is intended as a cutting-edge Symposium on Fitting Statistical Distributions to Data.  To achieve this, we contemplate:

·   Plenary talks of one hour in length, with discussion period of one-half hour, by leaders in the field of Fitting Statistical Distributions to Data.

·   Invited talks of one-half hour in length, with discussion period, by current and upcoming research leaders of the field, including Professor Saralees Nadarajah & Dr. Steve Su

·    Poster talks in a special time period with no competing sessions, to encourage and facilitate interaction among participants by yet another method

·    A Proceedings volume based on refereed papers from the Symposium; this is of such a level of importance in making the Symposium material available to a wider audience, that all papers will be submitted to refereeing for consideration for the Proceedings, and papers (with Copyright Transfer form) will be due by later 2006 (the format of the AMERICAN JOURNAL OF MATHEMATICAL AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES, which is available at http://www.ajmms.southalabama.edu/). It is very appropriate to make the first part of a paper tutorial in your area, and to include new research results in the latter part.

Potential presenters should send their paper/talk proposal to Professor Dudewicz by email (dudewicz@syr.edu) as soon as possible.  Accepted proposals may be given Invited status (subject to results of proposal review, and if program room allows).

For information on attending, request registration information from Prof. Mark Carpenter (carpedm@auburn.edu), cc: to Professor dudewicz@syr.edu

Registration fees: $50 per day, $150 the week, free for Auburn students (and faculty), $50 for non-Auburn student.
